With the 41 Paimio Armchair , designer and architect Alvar Aalto managed to find the perfect balance between abstraction, tradition and natural influence. It is one of the most recognized designs of Alvar Aalto, who designed these "Accessories for Architecture", as he called his own furniture, for the living rooms of a lung clinic, in Paimio in southwestern Finland.

This revolutionary ergonomically designed chair allowed the clinic's patients an optimal sitting posture for their lungs, in which they could breathe easily and also enjoy the warm sun. This comfortable armchair quickly became the figurehead of the clinic, which is why it is still called Paimio all over the world.

Artek produces the Paimio Armchair in birch veneer, which makes this armchair special for its shape, the backrest is in one piece, which gives a simple but very expressive line to the armchair, giving a waveform impression to the room.

As basic organic shapes, waves can be found in many Alvar Aalto designs, whether it's both his buildings or just his furniture. It is not by accident that Alvar Aalto is considered to be one of the most important representatives of organic architecture and design. In this way he preferred to work with wood, to let nature and the species of the environment be an integral part of his work.
