Wassily armchair designed by Marcel Breuer for Knoll. A classic in the history of design that brings sophistication, elegance and an attractive touch to any environment where it is placed.
Finish: Seamless tubular steel structure with a polished chrome finish + black leather seat and backrest.
The design of the Wassily Lounge Chair came about when its author, Marcel Breuer, was an apprentice at the Bauhaus and conceived the first tubular steel chair in the world. Inspired by the frame of a bicycle, a product that he greatly admired for its functional design. Breuer saw tubular steel as a way to build a more transparent chair. Influenced by the constructivist theories of the Dutch De Stjil movement, Breuer gave it a familiar shape – in this case the classic club chair – and reduced it to its elementary, flat lines. The composition of the leather strips suspended in steel tubes was the first chair of its kind. Breuer named the chair after showing it to Wassily Kandinsky, the first person he showed the chair to.
It features a classic KnollStudio design, produced to Breuer's original specifications. The KnollStudio logo and Marcel Breuer's signature are stamped on the base of the chairs.
