Mermaid Silhouette is a design by Alexander Girard from 1965, which was born as part of the La Reserve restaurant project in New York.
Vitra has decided to reproduce two of the silhouettes created for this project, Mermaid and Bull.
Black powder-coated steel sculpture.
Includes felt at its base.
Alexander Girard is one of the great American designers of the post-war period along with his colleagues Charles & Ray Eames and George Nelson among others.
Silhouette was born as one more element of an interior design project by the designer, the restaurant La Reserve in New York, which never opened its doors. To differentiate and separate the areas of the restaurant, Girard created metal figures that seem to dance, which served as a separation and also added a cheerful touch to the decoration of the premises.
Although unfortunately the restaurant did not open its doors, Alexander Girard's designs, plans and drawings were preserved and many of them are in the Vitra Design Museum.
Years later, in collaboration with the Girard family, he decided to reproduce some of these motifs, starting with Silhouettes, Mermaid and Bull.
They are decorative and sculptural pieces made of black coated steel and with felt at the base.
Perfect for putting them together or separately.
