The Ashoka lamp, designed by Ettore Sottsass for Memphis Milano in 1981, is an irreverent icon of postmodernism. Its totem silhouette, inspired by Emperor Ashoka's Buddhist columns, combines lacquered metal tubes arranged in a fan with vibrantly colored discs that seem to float, defying gravity. The result is a luminous sculpture that turns any room into a design gallery.
The Ashoka lamp has a powerful chromaticism and a message: light can also be playful. A sought-after collector's item, the Ashoka employs dimmable E14 LED bulbs for adaptable brightness, and its handcrafted finishes ensure authenticity and durability.
