Bookshelf designed by Charles & Ray Eames for Vitra.
Charles & Ray Eames, 1949.
Eames Storage Units (ESU Bookcase).
In 1949, Charles & Ray Eames developed a novel multifunctional shelving system, the Eames Storage Units (ESU Bookcase), built on the principles of industrial mass production, just like the Eames House, designed at the same time.
In collaboration with the Eames Office and Dutch designer Hella Jongerius, a carefully defined new color palette was chosen to give the ESU a fresh, contemporary look while maintaining the same spirit of the 40s and 50s. The ESU Bookcase is narrower and only available in one height.
Birch-veneered laminated maple wood with clear varnish, powder-coated aluminium panelling, moulded laminated wood sliding doors, black powder-coated metal surfaces, height-adjustable legs.
Measurements: height 148 x width 120 x depth 430 cm.
