Shoji is a screen designed by Time & Style ēdition for De Padova. It is assembled into a fine lattice using straight-fiber Akita cedar and finished without paint to bring out the cedar's original texture and aroma. On one side it is covered with Echizen washi paper from Fukui Prefecture, one of the three most important traditional papers in Japan. With a history dating back 1,500 years, Echizen washi is a durable paper that typically comes in large sheets that is seamlessly applied on fusuma (sliding doors) and byobu (folding screens). The three panels are joined together by paper hinges glued with washi paper. Using a traditional Japanese process, these partitions are made solely of Akita cedar and Echizen washi paper with no metal fixings.
The Shoji screen by De Padovais slightly lower than the standard ones but tall enough to remain out of sight when sitting in a chair. Despite its modest size, the soft light filtering through the washi paper adds depth to the space.
Available with Japanese paper or just the Akita cedar frame, the elegant tension of the Shoji lattice gives rhythm to the space.
