Polder Compact Sofa.
Vitra first produced the Polder sofa in 2005. It introduces an unusual shape and a carefully crafted combination of colors, materials, and textures into the typology of the contemporary sofa. Now, 10 years later, the Polder Sofa has been updated with a new version; the Polder Compact. The reinterpretation of this sofa is evident in the shape, the richest colors of the upholstery and the increased comfort.
In the homeland of Dutch designer Hella Jongerius, the word "polder" refers to flat lands, usually divided into fields and intended for agriculture, which have been reclaimed from the sea by dikes and drainage canals. With its flat surfaces and low design with a markedly horizontal line, this sofa recalls the characteristic landscape of the polders. The large seat cushions form an asymmetrical and enormously comfortable surface surrounded on both sides by a padded structure. The sofa is distinguished by the shape of its structure: the Polder Compact is surrounded by a platform that can be used to support magazines, books or trays. It has a structure with two arms at different heights, which reduces its seat dimensions. The high arm also allows you to sit sideways in a very comfortable position, both for reading and watching TV. With its clearly asymmetrical structure, it can be optionally configured with the high armrest on the left or right side to adapt it to different spatial configurations. The structure and the upholstered cushions are upholstered in different types of fabrics and in carefully coordinated colours: various shades of green, red, golden yellow or dark blue. These sofas do not use commercial upholstery fabrics, but fabrics developed exclusively for Vitra designed by Hella Jongerius. They are materials designed to intensify the subtle play of colors and textures that characterizes this design.
