First Chair.

First Chair designed by Michele De Lucchi in 1983 for Memphis, they had to cope with the multiplicity of postmodern styles in order to capture the zeitgeist at a rapid pace, being an experimental design style. First was one of the few designs intended for the general public, and it quickly became a bestseller. The construction of the backrest and armrest is a real eye-catcher. It consists of a steel tube, bent to form a circle, which supports a flexible backrest comprising a round wooden disc on rubber bearings and two wooden spheres as armrests. The tube is welded to the front legs and these to a simple seat frame. Although the construction is extremely stable, the elements reduced to a minimum radiate a strong impression of lightness. The moderate use of decorative elements in the First chair gives it an almost classic air among the rest of the Memphis objects, being suitable for conventional interior decoration.
