Vase designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr. for BD Barcelona.
It's one of our favorite pieces.
It has become a hallmark of BD Barcelona around the world.
Shiva vase, designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr. in 1973, for BD Barcelona.
In the early 1970s, Sottsass often traveled to Barcelona. He had fallen in love with a beautiful Catalan. As a result of that love and his stay in our country, this piece has been left for the history of our design. The gold version, a trophy, was made especially for the X edition of the Signes Awards for design students.
“... I continue to make small, small architectures, like this pottery, a little like monuments, a little like tombs, a little like abandoned temples of the gods, a little like ruins of the ancient and unknown civilization where something, they say, was known; they say that the axes, the curves, the crossings, perhaps even the reason for the cosmic trajectories along which the private vertices of the atoms that make our fragile body slide every day."
An illustrious person premiered the list of designs of the first Bd catalogue. It was almost ten years before Memphis was born, but Ettore Sottsass had already travelled to India as many years ago. Their "small architectures", such as this vase, owe a lot to that culture.
Finishes: Glazed ceramic in pink color.
